Whew, I made it! Not just to the end of this class or to the end of this semester, but to the end of my collegiate career at Howard University. It was a bittersweet, but joyful moment reflecting on all I’ve accomplished these past three years while constructing my interactive resume. To give some background, this resume is more than just a mundane PDF of all of my skills and accomplishments. It’s a passion-filled interactive timeline of powerful storytelling. Above all else, I consider myself a storyteller, a journalist who amplifies voices and stories that otherwise wouldn’t get told. This is a sentiment I want resonated through my interactive resume–a sentiment that would not be shown just by looking at a sheet of paper with my qualifications.
Dr. Stacy Patton once told our class, do not let your voice, your unique perspective get lost when telling a story. That’s something that will always be in the back of my head when I’m reporting or faced with a difficult career decision. I truly believe my wiring and storytelling abilities are a Divine gift, and I intend to use them to stimulate social change. I have nothing but Professor like Dr. P and the Howard University journalism department to thank for all my accomplishments and acquired experiences. I cannot wait to reach back and life and climb.
