Hey ya’ll! My name is Nyah Marshall, I am a 20-year-old sophomore at THE illustrious Howard University! I’m a communications major with a journalism concentration and an Afro-American studies minor. At Howard, I am a part of the campus radio station, WHBC, digital media team, and a member of Howard’s Association of Black Journalists. I grew up in South Jersey and I love to read, write, and listen to my favorite artists. Some topics I’m passionate about researching and writing about are issues within the Black community, human trafficking, beauty standards, and self-love (the best love).
I started this portfolio my Freshman year at Howard for my Digital Media Literacy course, and now as a Sophomore taking Multimedia Storytelling, I hope to add to it and build my online presence as a journalist. This 2021 Spring semester the main beat I will be focusing on is the location Cumberland County, New Jersey, where I currently reside. I will be reporting on this beat and building my presence as a journalist in this area. Reporting on this beat will help me achieve the goals that I have for my Multimedia Storytelling course, including, building my presence as a journalist in the area, bringing together the Black community in the area, and also strengthening my digital and multimedia journalism skills.
Although this portfolio initially started as a requirement for my Digital Media Literacy class, my blog is becoming an essential creative outlet for me.
Through this blog, I’m learning how to navigate through digital spaces and starting to become more digital media literate! I hope you join me as I progress as a journalist and paint my thoughts in black and write.
